For Parents... I am very excited to be your child’s art teacher. I have so many wonderful projects planned for my students and look forward to getting to know each of them. Each year, I like to take a day or so to familiarize my students with my class policies. Research and experience show that children learn better when they are in a classroom with clear expectations; they become more relaxed and willing to learn. In order to create this type of classroom, I have posted class rules, consequences, policies, and procedures on my website and have reviewed them with your child. Please take the time to read them, below.
Please reinforce these classroom policies at home. If we work together with the best interest of the children as our goal, our school environment will be an enjoyable one! I encourage you to contact me with questions or any other concern through out the year. Call my classroom and leave a voicemail (860) 445-3857 or email me at Joy.Supples@cttech.org FOUNDATIONS OF ART & Gr 9

Art Room Rules & Grading PolicyGOOGLE CLASSROOM CODES:
2D Design: bkmp5ft Advanced Art: emh6qpn Foundations of Art: m73vxr5 PLEASE CHECK GOOGLE CLASSROOM and POWERSCHOOL regularly. Parents, please feel free to join our Google Classroom to monitor your child's progress. Class Meetings - three days per week (appx. 6 times per cycle/10 times per Quarter), so grading can fluctuate quickly. Please be sure you stay on top of your grades and complete assignments on time. Late/Missing Work - receives a "0" until the assignment is turned in or made up. I update my gradebook weekly during academics (every 7 days, sometimes sooner) If you turn in a late assignment at the end of a cycle or during shop, it it will be graded the following academic cycle. Late projects can be revised and resubmitted by the end of each quarter with teacher permission. Late daily assignments and homework will be accepted at teachers' discretion. Students have one day upon their return to school to make up missing work; medically excused absences determined by admin ( i.e.- COVID quarantine) can have more time. Assignments - Your final grade for the quarter consists of: Projects 50% (one per quarter usually) Classwork/ Homework 40% Tests/Quizzes 10% I emphasize self-evaluation and growth in class. Many times, you will be asked to evaluate your own work. Rubrics for each project are posed in advance so that you are clear of what is expected of you. READ THE RUBRIC over and over again and READ TEACHER COMMENTS in Google Classroom. Most assignments are posted in Google Classroom to all grade levels, so READ the instructions to see your deadlines or write it down in class. Most assignments MUST BE PHOTOGRAPHED and TURNED IN DIGITALLY IN GOOGLE CLASSROOM FOR CREDIT . Projects are generally due the last day of of the last academic cycel of each quarter. Extra credit is only offered to students who have completed all assigned work. Absences/ Tardies If you are absent or suspended, it is your responsibility to find out if anything is due. Please check Google classroom, Google Meet, and Powerschool. If you are late, enter quietly and show a pass from another teacher. Please note that for every day you are late without a pass you will receive a detention. Uniform Policy Please come to class dressed in academic uniform. It is my job to help enforce that you wear it. Cell Phone Policy Phones and other personal electronic devices (including head phones/ Airpods) are to be silent during class time and stored away unless we are using them as part of an assignment. We are trying to teach students how to behave like productive working adults. Scrolling, Tiktoking, Snapchatting, Facetiming, taking selfies, videos, etc during class time is not professional behavior. Please reinforce this at home. Arrange phone calls with your child outside of instruction time. I let students return calls and texts, provided they seek permission first. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES The Rules: Be SHARP! Be Safe Be Happy Be Attentive Be Respectful Be Prepared What do you do when you enter the room?
Studio Clean Up Each student is responsible for ensuring that the entire art room is clean at the end of the period. This includes washing tables down, if necessary, picking up scraps off the floor, washing brushes out, sweeping the floor etc… Passes Because the first part of class usually involves demonstrations and instruction, you may only use a pass after the first 15 minutes or so of class. If you are having a medical emergency, we will escort you to the nurse. Food/Drink food or other beverages are allowed as per school policy. Consequences/ Discipline 1. Warning 2. Seat Moved / Time Out 3. Class Detention/ Parent Contacted 4.
