What is this class about?
Learn about 2D and 3D art, improve your visual literacy and creativity while learning about the "elements of art": line, color, shape, space, texture, value, & form. This introductory class meets 3 periods per week for total of 45 days. It is a 1/2 credit class. You need to pass this class to go on to other art classes. Materials: sketchbook, pencil, and other materials as required. Bring your stuff to class EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. If you don't you will get a "0" for the day and your friends will have to loan you paper and a pencil. Most of us can afford a $2 sketchbook if we can afford a cell phone.
We don't expect you to show up knowing how to do art. When you show up to geometry class, does the teacher expect you already know how to use the Pythagorean Theorem? I hope not. We are here to teach you how to be the best artist you can be. If you think you reeeeally stink at drawing, that's ok, because you are gonna going to grow and get better at it when we are done with you. No matter what your current artistic ability is, you will get challenged to be the best artist you can be. Promise.
Syllabus 2020-2021
Quarter 1 Project: Drawing with Value, Line and Shape
Quarter 2 Project: Using Expressive Color
Quarter 3 Project: Wire & Clay Sculpture
Quarter 4 Project: Independent Topics & Portfolios

Value: Still Life Drawings using Pen and Ink
9th, 10th and 11th Grade students used pen and ink to create these drawings. The objective to was to learn how to "see" real life objects, then "model" the objects with line to create the illusion of three-dimensional forms. Consideration was paid to craftsmanship, and compositional techniques such as unity and repetition. Other skills studied included shading, shadow and highlight; hatching techniques; and value to create these one-of-a-kind artworks.
