This year, I've decided to periodically blog about art happenings in my classroom and beyond. Enjoy!
SAVE THE DATE! Arts Night 2020 is happening on May 21, 2020 from 5 to 7 PM at Grasso Tech! This event will feature a student art show, music concert, and more!!! Free and open to the public! More info coming soon...
DID YOU KNOW??? Researchers at Drexel University discovered that making art reduces stress, especially in young people. So, be sure you squeeze in a daily dose of art therapy whenever your world gets crazy. Even just doodling with crayons on notebook paper can be a relaxing experience! Who needs yoga when you have art?
ART ROOM DONATIONS NEEDED I am always in need of donated items to keep the art room running smoothly. If your family tends to hoard/ collect/just have too many of the following items, please consider sending some my way! You can drop off in the main office, or your student can leave them in front of the art room door in the morning:
-Greek yogurt cups
-newspapers
-plastic grocery bags
- No. 2 pencils
-hand lotion
THANK YOU to Ruth Munton, 2020, and her family for all of the cups you have donated over the years. I don't know what I will do when Ruth graduates in June. I am grateful that you all love Chobani so much, though :)
HOLIDAY GIFT GIVING IDEAS & FAMILY FUN! Can't figure out what to buy your friends or loved ones this year? Need an idea for a family-friendly activity this weekend? Problem solved! My favorite local gallery, Hygienic Art, currently is hosting an ART SALE until December 28th. The best part? Everything is priced under $100! Take the whole family and enjoy the artwork at the gallery!
While we are on the topic of gift giving, teachers are sometimes lucky enough to receive gifts of appreciation from students and their families. Nothing warms my heart more than a kind note from a student or a hand made ornament. Just remember that teachers can only accept gifts valued less than $25.
FEATURED STUDENT ARTWORK
Check out this short film by Leslie Melendez, Class of 2021. Leslie has been exploring how to make films. She is a very talented artist, with strong technical skills thanks to the help of Grasso's I.T. shop. This was her independent project for the Advanced Art class for Quarter 1.
TURN THE VOLUME WAAAAAY UP!
